Areas of Focus:

Companies developing better treatments for significant human diseases and other medical conditions.

Includes:

Biopharmaceuticals
Therapeutic medical devices
Biotechnology platforms with drug development focus
Drug delivery
Therapeutic Biomaterials

 

Investment Stage:
We invest in private companies at any stage of development.  While many of our investments are in the first institutional round of financing, we make investments at later stages as well.

Investment Range:
Typically $1-5 million initially, with more reserved for follow-on financings.  We will consider initial investments less than $1M for seed round financings.

Geographic Focus:                                                                                                                    We will consider investments anywhere in the United States.  Because of our location and typical active involvements in our companies, a majority of our investments will be in Southern California. 

Role in Financing Process:
We often serve as the lead investor in financings, however we will also consider folloing investments led by other venture capital funds.

BOD Role:

We typically require a seat on the companiy's Board of Directors, In later stage investments or special circumstances, we may require only observation rights to the Board meetings.

Return Target:                                                                                                                                We seek investments that have the potential to return at least ten times our initial capital within 5 years.

Liquidity:                                                                                                                                        Realistic target for acquisition or IPO within 5 years.

Capital Structure:                                                                                                                           Typically Preferred Stock (equity).  We will consider Convertible Debt and other financing structures in special circumstances.
